A Hummingbird Named Hoglet

I have been watching the antics of “Hoglet,” my uber-territorial hummer. I have seen videos of dozens of hummingbirds sharing feeders together, but, no! Hoglet guards both of my feeders relentlessly. In fact, I rarely see him feed as he is so busy defending. I moved the second feeder farther away from the first to give the other hummers a chance, but he sits halfway between them on an apple tree branch. That way, he can execute a lightning fast “Y” maneuver to chase off any interloper, male or female. This also gives him a perfect vantage point to guard the pollinator flowerbeds below. What a fierce, pugnacious little creature!
