Winter Haiku

Editor’s Note: The Winter 2021-2022 issue of New Hampshire Bird Records included a group of Winter Haikus by Jim Sparrell that pertained to the season summary he and Katie Towler had written. The following haiku is a reprint from that collection, beautifully illustrated by photographs of sightings that kicked off the Winter 2025-26 season.

This Purple Finch was photographed by Debra Powers on 12-8-2025 in South Berwick, Maine, just across the Salmon Falls River from New Hampshire.
